Why I am participating in Alpe d'HuZes

On June 6th, I'll be embarking on a significant journey – biking up Alpe d'HuZes. However, this trek is more than just a physical challenge; it's a heartfelt endeavor to raise funds for cancer research. This cause resonates deeply with me, as I honor the memory of my beloved brother-in-law, Harrie, and support my courageous niece, Maartje, in their battles against cancer.

Remembering Harrie: Our family was shaken to the core by the devastating news of Harrie's pancreatic cancer diagnosis. Harrie was always more than just a brother-in-law; he was a dear, loving friend. His unwavering spirit in the face of adversity left an indelible mark on all who knew him. Despite the grueling battle, Harrie's infectious smile never faded, a testament to his resilience and unwavering determination.

Honoring Maartje's Fight: Tragically, the echoes of cancer did not cease with Harrie's passing. Shortly thereafter, his daughter, Maartje, received her own diagnosis of metastatic breast cancer. Yet, like her father before her, Maartje has approached this challenge with unwavering courage and resilience. Her tenacity in the face of adversity serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration to us all. Each day, she embodies the epitome of strength, refusing to yield to the grips of this relentless disease.

With each pedal up Alpe d'HuZes, we strive to honor the memory of Harrie and support Maartje's ongoing battle. Our journey is not just about conquering a mountain; it's about conquering cancer – for our family, for Maartje, and for all those whose lives have been touched by this insidious disease.
