Waarom ik meedoe aan Alpe d'HuZes
Cancer is affecting many of us, either directly or indirectly.
Over the last few years we have lost too many friends and family to cancer. My dear aunt Maria, our amazing friend Jane, wonderful Stacia, Jones, Craig, and of course Ellen, and too many others. We also know too many others battling a variety of cancers right now.
Cancer research has made enormous strides in treating and preventing this diverse disease, but there still is a long road to travel. It is critical that we continue research into prevention, detection, and novel treatments to make cancer a curable or treatable disease, or eradicate it altogether.
Therefore, Loret and I decided to join thousands of others this summer and walk up the Alpe D’Huez, one of the iconic mountain climbs in the Tour the France cycling race, to raise money for cancer research, and in memory of those we lost in recent years, to cancer or otherwise.
The 4-5 hour walk up a 9% incline will be tough, but a small endeavor compared to what those fighting cancer and their family and friends have gone through, and are still going through right now. We will do our walk on Wednesday June 3 and you can follow us via the Alpe D’huez website.
On Thursday June 4, my brother Arnold and many others will bike up the mountain 6 times for the same cause.
We will do this as members of the “Big Challenge – Ellen onze topper” team and our motto is “Giving up is not an option”. A significant element of our big challenge at Alpe D’Huez that week is the remembrance and celebration of the lives of those we lost to cancer, and those still fighting it.
Please consider supporting this cause by donating via this website. Any amount will help.
