Why I participate in Alpe d'HuZes
Dear friends,
As some of you know I grew up in a classic dutch cycling family. Every summer we used to travel to France, bikes on the back of the car and off we went to the French alps. And so it happened that a 13 year old me climbed Alpe D’Huez for the first time. For some reason I always preferred cycling up mountains over flat surfaces. Likely not in the last place because of the stunning surroundings!
Anyway, fast forward to 2025 and as many of you (mainly Dutchies!) must know there is a wonderful yearly cycling event, cycling up and down the famous Alpe D’Huez up to 6 times in 1 day to raise money for cancer research - Alpe D’HuZes. My super mom already mastered this event three times, and it’s no coincidence that after many years of hesitation this is the year I decided to join.
In December 2023, after almost 2 years of illness, my grandpa, who we largely inherited the cycling passion from - lost the battle against cancer. As we grew more and more familiar with the devastating effects of both the disease and medication it became clear that we need to step up our game in order to keep developing treatments, and hopefully defeat the disease once and for all.
My way of contributing? Participating in Alpe D’HuZes, June 5th 2025.
